About Coogee Beach Australia
A long-exposure photograph looks across the seawall of an ocean pool at Coogee. A row of squat concrete blocks, stained dark by salt and weed, runs along the low wall and separates the pool from the open sea. Seawater pours over the wall in soft white sheets, blurred by the slow shutter into milky streaks that fill the foreground. Above, banked cloud breaks into violet, mauve and grey, lit underneath with apricot and pale gold where the sun sits below the horizon.
The mood is quiet and cold rather than tropical: smooth blurred water, hard concrete geometry and a sky doing all the colour work. It reads as an early morning swim spot before anyone has arrived.
Works in a beach house hallway, a bedroom above the bed head, or a living room with white or pale grey walls. The violet and apricot sky sits well with timber furniture, linen in oatmeal or soft blue, and rattan. Hang it where morning light hits so the water stays bright rather than flat.
