The horse is a pale grey with a dark mane blown back along its neck, and it wears a studded bridle with a chain linking the bit and rein. The square background is washed in ochre, cream and olive, with vertical drips running down from the top and a band of tawny grass below. The palette is muted and sepia-like, with only a fine teal edge visible.
