A loose bunch of cream and blush-pink peonies fills a squat, two-handled cream jug that sits on a red tablecloth. The blooms are built from thick, buttery strokes of ivory, pale yellow and dusty rose, with dark green leaves tucked in between. One bloom drops to the right of the jug, and another rises at the top left.
Behind the flowers, a deep red wall carries a harlequin pattern of tan diamonds down the right side, with a pale vertical line near the top. The surface looks heavily textured, like impasto brushwork on canvas. The palette is mostly crimson, cream and olive green, and the pale flowers and jug stand out sharply against the red. A few dark leaf shapes lie on the tabletop at lower right.
