Three large cream peonies fill this square image. The biggest bloom sits low left, its ruffled petals opened to show a cluster of golden yellow stamens at the centre. A second flower looks down from the top edge, and a third, tighter bud-like bloom is cropped by the right side.
Behind the flowers is a muted blue background with a tan and brown damask scrolling pattern. Deep green leaves curl in at the lower right. The light is soft and even, with gentle shading in the petal folds, and the rendering is smooth and realistic, like a classical floral study. A signature sits along the bottom edge.
