A single cream-white rose fills the centre of this portrait image, its petals turning inward to a tight spiral at the heart. The shading moves from soft ivory to warm beige along the outer folds, giving each petal a smooth, slightly waxy look. The rose is cropped close and set at a slight angle.
Behind it, broad sweeps of coral and pink petal shapes curve across the left and top, streaked with lighter pink brushwork. A deep black-brown background shows through the gaps. Thin grey-green stems carry small round buds and tiny white baby's breath blossoms along the lower edge. The look is smooth and painterly.
