A thin crescent moon hangs in the upper right of a deep blue sky that warms to a band of orange and gold along the horizon. The sun has just dipped below a flat, distant waterline, leaving a small glow at the centre and soft streaks of cloud above.
In the foreground, round brown and grey pebbles are scattered across the shore, with rounded drifts of snow and ice resting on them. A shallow channel of dark water curves back towards the horizon and picks up the purple tones of the sky. It is a photograph with sharp detail from the stones to the far ice.
