A soft sand dune fills the foreground, its surface fine with wind ripples and lit warm gold along the crest. A clump of dry, straw-coloured grass grows from the top of the dune and leans slightly to one side, and a second, smaller tuft sits further back on the next rise.
Past the dunes a narrow band of deep blue sea runs along a low horizon. Above it, thick clouds in slate grey and blue are touched with pink and peach where the light breaks through on the left. The tall portrait format gives the sky and sand equal weight, and the scene reads as a photograph with gentle, muted tones.
