About Dusk at the Shore
The composition is built from wide horizontal bands. The top third is a washed sky of pale grey-blue with a faint apricot tint near the upper right corner, blending down into a thick, deeper band of cobalt and indigo that runs the full width of the canvas. Below it the tones lighten again into pale aqua and soft blue-grey, suggesting shallow water. On the lower left an apricot and orange shape spreads outward like a sandbar, its edge feathered where it meets the blue.
There is no drawn detail anywhere: every boundary is blurred, and a fine vertical striping runs through the surface where the colour was dragged, giving the flat areas a subtle woven texture. The character is quiet and atmospheric, a coastline reduced to colour and light rather than shape. It reads as calm and open, with the warm apricot band providing the only real point of contrast.
Suits bedrooms, living rooms and beach house hallways where the palette is already soft. It works above a low linen sofa, a bedhead or a sideboard, and pairs with pale timber, rattan, white walls and cream or oatmeal textiles. The apricot band picks up terracotta pots, tan leather and brass lamp bases. Browse more blue art, multi-coloured art, orange art, or read Art above the bed: what size and how high.
