A band of dark blue-grey cloud stretches across the upper half of the frame, its edges lit orange and pink where the low sun breaks through along the horizon. Patches of pale blue sky show above and between the clouds, and a soft shaft of light falls through the left side.
In the foreground a shallow tidal pool mirrors the sky, repeating the clouds and the glowing horizon in the still water. Fine parallel ripples in the wet sand run across the lower third, picking up copper and violet tones. A flat, dark strip of beach divides pool from sky. It is a photograph in a calm, wide landscape format.
