A single fan palm stands tall in the centre of a portrait canvas, its slender brown trunk rising to a crown of broad green fronds that spread outward like an open hand. The leaves are loosely brushed in soft sage and mid greens with darker strokes near the centre, and the trunk is thin, slightly textured and rooted in a few scratchy marks at the base.
Behind the palm, in pale tan tones, sit a stone arch with two columns on the left and a small urn holding greenery on a plinth at right. They are drawn faintly so they recede into the background. The cream and blush ground is worked in visible, layered strokes, giving the whole scene a soft, dry, weathered feel like old plaster.
