A single large scallop shell fills the centre of a square panel, drawn in fine brown hatching that shows every rib and the ridged growth lines across its fan. The small hinge wings sit at the base, and the shell is shown as a flat, engraved-style specimen rather than a realistic photograph.
The background is a washed aqua with a faint linen texture, framed by a cream scalloped border and a darker brown woven edge. Handwritten words sit around the shell in soft peach script: driftwood, waves, bay, tide, breaker, current, surf, fan shell and beach.
