A photograph of a shallow inlet in winter, its surface broken into flat white plates of ice that fill the foreground. Dark water shows between the floes and picks up small streaks of gold and pink. At the lower edge, wet black rock and seaweed cut through the ice, and a thick bank of snow curves up the right side.
Beyond the water, snow-covered mountains rise on both sides, with a few bare trees and a scatter of small buildings at the shoreline on the right. A heavy, dark blue storm cloud hangs overhead, opening over the centre to reveal a patch of pale blue sky and a glowing band of peach and pink. The palette is cold blues and whites warmed by that one soft glow.
