A long timber pier runs in from the right of the frame, its weathered boards and small peaked cupolas catching the first warm light. Beneath the deck, the pylons are wrapped in thick, pale icicles that hang down to the waterline, giving the structure a ragged, frozen skirt.
On the left, a low sun glows yellow and orange at the horizon, with its reflection trailing down through smooth, misty water. Fog lies over the sea and softens the far end of the pier. Streaky clouds above shift from peach to pink and violet into deep blue. It is a photograph with a long-exposure calm.
