A worn stone staircase runs up the left of this portrait-format garden scene, its steps striped with bands of light and shadow. Either side, spiky rosettes of yucca or grass-like foliage swell into round golden-green domes, their fine blades radiating outward like starbursts. A low stone wall with terracotta pots edges the path on the right.
In the foreground, clusters of blue and violet agapanthus and a few white flower heads rise on green stems, while a tall yellow flower spike stands behind. Umbrella pines and palms arch overhead against a pale blue sky with soft cloud. The brushwork is loose and textured, with warm ochres and oranges balanced by cool teals and blues.
