Eight geese stand in a loose row with their backs to us, necks stretched upright and orange bills turned in profile. Four are white and four are grey-brown with darker feathers and pale edging on the wings. Their black legs and webbed feet splash through shallow water at the bottom of the frame.
Streaks of white rain fall over a blue background that warms to gold and amber near the ground. Thick, visible brushwork gives a textured, painterly look. Gold flecks scatter across the dark puddle surface, where the birds' reflections break into ripples. The cool top and warm base give the scene a moody glow.
