About Giraffe Watercolour Pair
Two giraffes stand side by side across a plain white ground, their heads turned to the right and their necks crossing near the centre. The upper heads are drawn with fine brown outlines, dark tufted horns and small scattered spots, while the necks and shoulders below break down into loose washes of amber, tangerine, rust and yellow. Lower down the bodies the markings turn to soft blocks of violet, mauve and dusty pink, with clear white paper showing between them. Flicked droplets and fine spray radiate from the manes and chests.
The character is quick and fluid, the kind of watercolour where control at the head gives way to deliberate looseness further down. Colour does the work that line usually would, so the animals read as warm shapes rather than detailed portraits.
Works in children's rooms and nurseries, but the muted violets and rusts keep it suitable for a living room or home office too. Hang it above a white or pale timber sideboard, or pair it with rattan, linen and other animal watercolours. The wide white background suits gallery walls with plenty of breathing space.
