This is an abstract woodland scene built from thick, scraped strokes of paint. On the right a mass of mustard yellow foliage hangs from a slim dark trunk. Thin black and brown trunks lean across the centre and left, some catching a thread of orange along their edges.
The lower half is heavy with dark brown, charcoal and deep teal, broken by slabs of white and pale grey-blue that read as water, snow or reflected sky. Ochre and tan leaf shapes float in the upper middle, and small flecks of lime green and rust sit near the base. The palette is muted apart from the yellow, and the knife marks stay visible throughout.
