About Golden Tree
A single slender trunk rises from the bottom edge, leaning slightly left, painted in near-black with streaks of brown and white scraped along its length. From its top the canopy spreads wide across the full width of the canvas, built from hundreds of gold and ochre petals laid on with a palette knife. Each blossom has five rounded petals and a small raised dot of white at its centre. Loose petals drift out to both sides and down towards the lower corners.
The background is worked in ivory, pale grey and warm cream, the knife leaving flat facets, fan-shaped sweeps and short combed ridges that catch light across the surface. The painting reads as calm and decorative, with the shine of the gold doing all the work against a quiet, textured ground.
Built for a wide wall above a sofa, sideboard or bedhead. The ivory ground suits grey, white or oatmeal walls, and the gold picks up brass lamps, warm timber and cream linen.
