About Graceful Majesty I
A woman is shown in profile against a flat turquoise background, her face, neck, shoulder and raised hand rendered as one solid charcoal-black shape with only the chin, lips and nose drawn as a clean outline. Her headwrap is the busiest part of the image: a large rounded form filled with black and white swirls, spirals and concentric curves that fan out from the crown and taper at the nape. Her index finger rests lightly near her lips.
The jewellery carries all the warmth. A gold teardrop earring hangs from her ear with a fringe of small beaded drops, two strands of tan coin beads loop across her chest, and a cluster of matching bangles sits at her wrist. Faint dry streaks run through the dark body, giving the flat shape a slight grain. The character of the piece is calm and poised, graphic and bold but quiet in mood, with a small signature at the lower right.
Works in a bedroom, dressing area or ladies' powder room where the turquoise can sit against white or pale grey walls.
