A single seagull flies in from the right with its wings fully spread, its pale underside lit by the low sun. It sits in the upper right of the frame, against a hazy band of sea and a thin white line of breaking waves along the horizon.
The sky is heavy with orange and copper clouds, split by a bright patch of light just left of centre. A few small birds speckle the clouds. Below, wet sand reflects the glow like a mirror, with two dark, layered rock slabs angling in from the lower corners. The soft, blended tones read as a photograph with a warm, painterly finish.
