A white-hulled sailboat leans steeply to one side, its timber-orange interior and cockpit exposed to the viewer. Pale lilac and white sails rise past the top edge of the frame, with thin rigging lines crossing the sky. The boat fills most of the width, pushed toward the right of the picture.
The sea is built from thick, dragged strokes of white, teal and slate grey, with foam streaking in curves beneath the hull. The sky behind is a flat, misty blue-grey. The textured, palette-knife look gives the water real movement, and the warm orange inside the boat is the only strong contrast to the cool surrounding tones.
