A rider in a red coat, white breeches and black riding cap sits on a brown horse and moves from right to left across an open field. Around the horse's legs and trailing behind run about a dozen hounds, each with a white body, tan patches and a raised tail. Their legs and heads are drawn at different angles, which gives the pack a sense of movement.
The field is dry grass in ochre, gold and olive, with scrubby brush along the back edge and a small wooden gate near the centre. Bare grey trees stand on both sides under a pale, misty sky washed in blue and cream. The soft blended edges and visible pigment bleeds read as a watercolour. A signature sits in the lower right corner.
