Clusters of hydrangea heads fill the whole square with no background, each bloom pressed against the next like patchwork. The clusters alternate between lilac and violet, soft mint green, and creamy ivory touched with olive, so the eye moves across the frame in blocks of colour.
Each head is made of rounded four-petalled florets with small purple or green centres, and the petal edges overlap in fine layers. The finish is soft and slightly translucent, closer to a digital illustration than a photograph. The palette is cool and gentle, with deeper blue-violet shading between the lighter clusters.
