A single block of translucent pale blue ice stands in the lower left of the frame, its angular top catching the last light. Water rushes around its base and pulls back across dark wet sand, and the long exposure turns the receding wash into soft, combed streaks of white, violet and slate.
Behind the ice, rows of breaking waves roll in beneath a thin band of glowing orange along the horizon. Above it, heavy plum and indigo cloud darkens towards the top edge. The colour moves from warm orange to cool blue and lilac, so the ice reads as the clear focal point. It is a photograph.
