Several bearded irises fill this portrait watercolour. Two red and rust blooms sit near the top, a smaller maroon one with an orange throat sits to the right, and a large lilac iris with a yellow beard and pink-brown shading sits at the lower right. Closed buds in deep purple and gold are scattered between them.
Tall sword-shaped leaves in lime, yellow and deep green overlap behind the flowers, with a blue wash showing at the top corners. The colour pools and bleeds with soft edges, and white paper shows through on the petals as highlights. A small signature sits at the bottom right corner.
