Two large irises fill the upper half of this square watercolour, their ruffled petals washed in mauve, lilac and magenta with amber and gold at the throats. Pigment pools and bleeds at the edges, leaving small flecks of white paper and fine splatters across the petals.
Below them, tall green and olive stems run down in streaky, dripping strokes, shifting into teal and yellow ochre. Four closed buds with plum tips sit among the leaves. A deep teal wash frames the top corners, and the loose, wet-into-wet handling gives the whole scene a soft, flowing movement.
