A single five-armed starfish fills the portrait frame against a plain white background. It is tilted so one arm points up, one reaches to the upper right, one to the lower right, one down, and one to the left. The body is cut with deep dark edges that give each arm a crisp outline.
The surface is mottled like alcohol ink or watercolour, with round bubble-like blooms of turquoise, cobalt and violet. Near the centre, patches of yellow, lime and burnt orange glow, with small red dots scattered through them. The arm tips darken to purple and navy. A small signature mark sits at the lower right.
