About Gilded Meadow Blooms
Around twenty five-petalled flowers rise across a square canvas, each built from thick gold paint pressed on with a palette knife so the petals sit proudly off the surface and catch light at their ridges. Every bloom has a small dark centre and balances on a long, thin black stem drawn straight down to the lower edge, giving the group the look of a field seen close up. The flowers cluster more densely at the centre-left and thin out towards the top corners.
The background is worked in sweeping fan-shaped strokes of teal, cream, olive and warm ochre, with a bright turquoise patch behind the middle blooms and darker brown tones at the right and along the base. Fine scraped lines run through the paint like grass blades. The character is quiet and decorative: warm metallic flowers against a cool, moody ground, with texture you can read from across the room.
Suits a lounge room, entry hall or main bedroom where the gold picks up brass lamps, timber or linen. The teal and ochre ground works with grey, cream or soft green walls. Hang it square above a sideboard or bedhead, or pair it with plain textured cushions and simple ceramics. Browse more floral art, knife paintings, square paintings.
