About Cobalt Mosaic
A square canvas filled edge to edge with overlapping rectangular blocks laid down with a palette knife. The blocks stack and interlock like tiles or a cluster of building faces, running mostly vertically through the centre and horizontally along the right. Colour moves from deep navy and indigo in the upper left corners to bright turquoise and aqua through the middle, with chalky white strokes catching the light near the centre and lower left. Small patches of rust red and dark maroon push through the gaps between blue slabs.
The paint is dragged thin in places so under-layers show as streaks, and pressed thick elsewhere so ridges of blue sit proud of the surface. The effect is cool and busy, with enough red warmth buried in it to stop the blue reading flat.
Works above a sofa in a white or pale grey living room, and holds a square wall in an entry or stairwell. Pairs with timber furniture, linen upholstery and chrome or black fittings.
