About Blue Blossom Cottage
A single wide-crowned tree fills the upper right of this square canvas, its canopy built from hundreds of small palette-knife strokes in sky blue, cobalt and white. The trunk splits into pale grey roots that spread across a snow-blue ground. Beneath the branches sits a tiny cottage with a red roof, a green door and a white picket fence. A second tree is suggested at the left in faint white impasto, almost lost in the pale sky. Far left, a small cart heaped with red, green and pink blooms rests on the slope.
The mood is quiet and wintry, carried almost entirely by blue and white, with the red roof and flower cart giving two small points of warmth.
Suits a bedroom, nursery or hallway where the walls are white, pale grey or soft blue.
