About Turquoise Meadow Poppies
A wide panoramic band of cream and buttery-yellow poppies rises on thin, dark, slightly curved stems from the bottom edge, the heads clustered densely at left and centre then thinning as they lean right. The background is split in feeling rather than by a line: warm ochre, rust and burnt orange scumbled across the left third, cooling into bright turquoise and teal on the right, with flecks of each colour carried into the other. Petals are laid on in short, thick palette-knife strokes that sit proudly above the surface.
The painting reads as a breezy field caught in strong light, all movement in the stems and thick ridges of paint. Its character is warm and fresh at once, cheerful without being sweet. A small dark signature sits at lower right.
The 200 x 100cm size suits a long wall above a three-seat sofa or a sideboard in an open-plan living room; smaller sizes work in a hallway or above a bed head.
