About Autumn Avenue
A narrow track runs from the bottom of the canvas into the distance, drawn in short cream, pink and pale grey knife strokes that read as wet stone. Rows of slim dark trunks stand on both sides, spaced evenly so the eye is pulled toward a bright opening at the centre. Overhead the canopy is built from thick slabs of scarlet, orange and lemon yellow paint, laid on edge so each leaf cluster catches light. Fallen leaves in the same colours bank up along both verges.
Olive and moss green fills the shaded ground at lower left, with a patch of fresh green foliage in the middle distance breaking the warm palette. A small area of pale blue sky shows through the branches at the top. The paint sits high off the canvas, with ridges and knife marks visible throughout. The character is warm and direct, an autumn avenue described by texture rather than detail.
Warm enough to carry a plain wall in a living room, hallway or dining room, and a good match for timber floors, tan leather, rattan and cream linen. The reds lift grey or white walls and sit comfortably beside brass lamps and indoor greenery. Long hallways suit the wider sizes, where the receding path has room to work.
