About Golden Autumn Avenue
A narrow road runs from the lower edge into the distance, flanked by tall slim trunks in dark brown and olive. Overhead, the canopy is built from thick palette knife dabs of chrome yellow, lemon and lime green, with flecks of orange and red along the right-hand branches. The wet road surface is laid in lilac, pale blue and grey strokes, broken by scattered yellow leaves and vertical reflections of the trunks. A single small figure walks away up the centre, painted in a few dark marks.
The paint sits high off the canvas, each leaf a separate loaded flick of the knife, so the picture catches light differently as you move past it. It reads as a quiet, damp autumn morning rather than a bright one.
Suits a hallway or entry where the receding road draws the eye down a narrow wall, and works in living rooms with warm timber floors, linen sofas and brass or rattan details.
