About Moonlit Birch Window
Six slender birch trunks rise the full height of the square canvas, their white bark broken by short black scars and cool blue shadow. Behind them a deep cobalt sky is brushed lighter towards the centre, where a small pale moon glows with soft rays spreading down through the trees. The upper branches carry clusters of crimson leaves, each one a separate thick dab of paint, with a few loose leaves falling through the middle of the scene. A small gold signature sits at the lower centre.
The outer edge is painted as a rough cream stone arch, built up in heavy palette knife ridges so the blocks catch real light and stand well above the smoother sky. The effect is of looking out through a broken wall into a cold blue night, quiet but with the red leaves giving it a sharp lift.
Works over a sideboard or bed in a room with white or pale grey walls, where the cobalt reads strongest. The cream stone border ties in with limestone, travertine and raw timber; the red leaves pick up cushions or rugs in wine and rust. Good in a hallway or study where a single square piece is enough.
