About Autumn Birch Grove
A close stand of birch trunks fills the whole square, running top to bottom with no sky or ground line to break them. The trunks are laid in with a palette knife in chalky white and cream, notched with short black and charcoal bark marks, and the gaps between them are filled with soft sage green and warm beige. Thin black branches curve out across the front like wire, carrying small knife-dabbed leaves in burnt orange, golden yellow and deep red. Lower down, a few rust and brown patches suggest fallen foliage at the base.
The effect is decorative and calm rather than literal: a flat, patterned screen of trees with autumn colour flicked across it. Texture sits high on the white trunks and in each raised leaf, so the surface catches side light.
Works in neutral rooms where the walls are white, oatmeal or pale grey. The square shape suits a space above a sideboard, a bed or a two-seater lounge, and the warm leaf colours pair with tan leather, timber floors, rattan and linen.
