About Violet Poppy Meadow
Dozens of small round poppies in violet and lilac are scattered across a field of gold and amber. The flowers sit densely along the bottom third, growing sparser towards the top where the background opens into pale cream and white, as though light is coming through from behind. Thin dark stems and tiny seed heads are flicked in with a fine brush, rising between the blooms. Petals are laid on thickly with a palette knife, each one a short curved ridge of paint that catches light along its edge.
The background is worked in broad horizontal knife strokes of orange, ochre and burnt brown, darkening towards the lower corners. Small dots of white paint are dabbed between the flowers like drifting seeds. The character is bright and warm, a high-contrast pairing of cool violet against hot gold that reads clearly from across a room.
Works well on a neutral or white wall in a living room, dining room or hallway where the gold background can warm a cool space. Sits comfortably above a sofa, sideboard or bed head.
