About Poppy Field Glow
Dozens of scarlet poppies fill the canvas in loose rows, largest along the bottom edge and shrinking towards the top so the field seems to run back into the distance. Behind them the background shifts from olive green on the left to orange and amber on the right, with a patch of white-gold light breaking through just above centre. Thin black flecks stand in for stems and seed heads, scattered between the blooms. The lower third drops into deep brown, almost shadow.
Every petal is laid on with a palette knife in short flat strokes, so the red sits raised off the surface and catches light along its ridges. Small dots of yellow mark the flower centres. It is a warm, high-contrast painting that reads as a glowing field at the end of the day, bold from across a room and textural up close.
Works above a sideboard or dining table in a room with white or pale grey walls, where the reds carry the whole scheme. Pairs with timber furniture, linen upholstery and brass or black metal.
