About Orange Bloom Vase
A wide, rounded bouquet of orange flowers fills the upper two thirds of the canvas, each bloom laid down as a few short knife strokes of thick paint so the petals sit proud of the surface. Small dots of yellow mark the flower centres and a few thin yellow lines trail down between the stems. The blooms darken to a deeper red-orange near the base of the bunch, where loose petals hang and drop away.
Below, a glossy black vase is built from broad knife sweeps with slivers of blue, white and olive catching the light along its shoulder. The background is a patchwork of cream, pale yellow and grey blocks on the left, turning to dark charcoal on the right, which pushes the orange forward. It is a bold, high-contrast still life carried almost entirely by the weight and direction of the paint.
Works above a sideboard in a dining room, on a hallway wall, or over a dark timber console in a living room. The orange lifts neutral schemes of grey, white and oatmeal, and sits well with black metal frames, charcoal upholstery and warm brass or copper accents.
