About Autumn Light Woodland
Slim, pale trunks rise in loose rows across the width of the canvas, thickest at the left and right edges and thinning towards a bright centre where the light burns almost white. Foliage sits high in the picture as short knife strokes of yellow-green and clean green, with warm ochre and tan filling the spaces between branches. A broad track of cream, apricot and burnt orange runs from the lower edge into the trees, edged by banks of leaf litter built from thick, chopped strokes of gold, rust and a few green flecks.
Paint is applied flat with the knife, leaving ridges and scraped edges that catch light across the ground and undergrowth. The mood is warm and quiet, an autumn afternoon with the sun sitting low behind the trees.
Works over a sofa in a living room with timber floors, linen or cognac leather seating, and brass or rattan accents. The orange and gold ground suits cream or soft grey walls, and it warms a dining room, a wide hallway or a bedroom above the bedhead. Pairs with terracotta pots and woven textures.
