About Autumn Farmhouse Lane
A pale dirt track enters at the lower left and curves back into the middle distance, its surface laid in thick cream and ochre strokes that catch the light. To the right sits a pair of low farmhouses with white rendered walls and orange-red tiled roofs, half screened by a tall tree in blazing orange and scarlet. Behind them a line of grey-green and olive trees runs to the edge, with faint blue hills showing through a soft, hazy sky worked in cream and lilac.
The foreground is a broad field of yellow-green pasture, edged along the bottom with dark green grasses and clusters of red and pink flower heads dabbed on in small raised marks. Paint is applied almost entirely with the knife, leaving flat facets on the field and ridged edges on the foliage. The mood is warm and settled, a quiet rural scene at the turn of the season rather than a dramatic one.
Suits a living room, dining room or hallway with warm neutrals, cream walls or timber floors. The orange and red notes sit well with tan leather, rattan and brass lamps. Hang above a sideboard or a low sofa where the wide format has room, and keep surrounding decor simple so the textured surface reads clearly.
