About Autumn Birch Lane
A dirt road swings in from the bottom right and curves back over a low rise, laid in thick strokes of orange, coral and pale cream that catch the light. Slim birches stand either side, their white trunks marked with short black scars, topped with loose clusters of yellow-green leaves. Grass on both banks is built from short dabs of mustard, lime and rust. Behind the rise the ground drops away to a blue-grey distance, with a soft white cloud bank under a clear blue sky.
The mood is bright and open, an early autumn walk with the light coming from the left. Paint sits high on the surface, so the road and grasses read as ridges of colour rather than smooth blended tones.
The vertical format suits a narrow wall beside a door, a hallway end or a stairwell. The yellow, orange and sky blue work with white or pale grey walls, timber floors and linen upholstery. Good in a dining room or entry where a single tall picture is needed; pairs with woven baskets, brass lamps and indoor greenery.
