About Poppy Meadow Glow
A wide band of meadow runs across the lower half of the canvas, filled with scarlet poppies, small white daisies and dots of violet and blue. The grasses are built from long upward strokes of yellow, olive and burnt orange, with brighter lemon-yellow light pooling through the right-hand side. Above the flowers the sky is a flat wash of warm apricot and cream, thinned so faint stalks and pale lavender spikes show through it near the top edge.
The paint is applied with a knife and loaded brush, so poppy heads sit up off the surface in thick ridges while the background stays smooth. The overall character is bright and sunlit, a simple summer field seen close up rather than a distant view.
The long horizontal shape suits the wall above a sofa, a sideboard or a bedhead, and works well along a hallway. The apricot and lemon tones lift white or pale grey walls and sit comfortably with oak and rattan furniture, linen upholstery and red or ochre cushions in living rooms, dining rooms and sunrooms.
