About Autumn Lake Cottage
A tall vertical composition looks down a pale earth path that winds from the lower edge toward a small white cottage with a red-tiled roof. Behind the cottage a wide lake sits flat and silvery, with soft reflections broken by short horizontal knife strokes. Slender trees lean in from the right, their canopies loaded with yellow, amber and rust foliage, while low shrubs along the path burn scarlet and orange. Distant blue-grey hills fade into a cream and mauve sky with drifting cloud.
The mood is quiet and late-season, warm foliage set against cool water and hazy hills. Thick knife-laid paint in the foreground banks and path gives the surface real ridges, while the sky and lake stay thin and smooth.
The narrow vertical shape suits a hallway end wall, a stairwell, or a slim space between two doorways or windows. The gold, rust and cream range works with timber furniture, cane, linen upholstery and warm white or clay-toned walls.
