About Riviera Terrace
A wide view looks down from a garden terrace to a calm bay. Two low whitewashed walls angle in from the left and right foreground, framing a pale sandy path that drops away toward the water. Banks of crimson, pink and magenta bougainvillea crowd both walls, laid on in thick knife-loaded strokes. A row of slim dark cypresses stands on the green slope mid-picture, with red-roofed white villas clustered on the headland to the right beneath leaning palms.
The bay itself is painted in flat horizontal blades of cobalt and pale blue, with a broad band of white light across the centre where the sun sits behind haze. Two small sailing boats read as single white flicks. Distant hills and a hillside town are brushed thinly in grey-mauve and cream. The character is bright and holiday-like: heavy ridged paint in the flowers and walls against a soft, almost bare horizon.
Built for a long wall: above a three-seat sofa, along a hallway, or over a sideboard in a dining room. The cream walls and crimson flowers sit well with white or limewashed paint, rattan and timber furniture, linen upholstery and terracotta pots.
