About Textured Elephant
A single African elephant fills the square canvas, facing forward with its head slightly turned. The wide ears spread to both edges in soft grey, ochre and tan, their surfaces built up with palette knife strokes that mimic creased hide. The trunk drops through the centre in banded ridges of white, grey and brown, with two short, blunt pale tusks curving up either side. A small dark eye sits under a heavy brow on the right. The background is bare off-white with knife scrapes and drips running down.
The mood is calm and close-up rather than dramatic, with the animal emerging from a plain wall of pale paint. Texture does most of the work, so the surface changes as the light moves across it.
Suits a living room or hallway with white or pale grey walls, where the raised paint catches side light. Works over a neutral linen sofa, a timber sideboard or a bed head in a safari or earthy-toned bedroom.
