About Charging Rhino
A white rhino fills the square canvas, walking straight at the viewer with its shoulders low and its long front horn angled up from a broad muzzle. The body is built from thick, flat knife strokes in warm grey, taupe and rust, with cream highlights dragged across the hide and cooler blue-grey shadows under the belly. Two dark, cupped ears sit high on the head. The forelegs are painted in near-black brown and end in loose, scuffed strokes where dust and light-coloured ground break around the feet.
Behind the animal the sky moves from soft cornflower blue at the top into pale yellow and apricot near the horizon, scraped on in wide vertical passes that let the canvas weave show. The paint sits high on the surface, so the picture reads as blocks of colour up close and as a solid, advancing animal from across the room. Its character is direct and physical: weight, forward motion and heat, with no detail wasted on the background.
Suits a living room, hallway or study wall painted white, stone or pale grey, and works above a leather sofa, a sideboard or a timber desk. The ochre and blue sit well with tan leather, rattan, brass lamps and jute rugs. A good single statement piece for a safari-leaning or mid-century room.
