A slim woman is drawn in loose black ink strokes against a background of dense newspaper columns in Cyrillic-style type. Her hair is piled up in a dark knot, her face is reduced to a few lines for the nose, lips and chin, and her neck and shoulders are only lightly outlined. She stands with one gloved arm raised and the other held at her side.
The strapless black bodice is washed in dark, uneven ink and is finished with a narrow gold band at the waist. Below it a full black skirt spreads out in long, feathery brush marks with a grey shadow trailing to the right. Patches of flaking gold leaf cover the left and right edges and the lower corners, so the cream newsprint is framed in gold with an aged, worn look.
