A woman is drawn in loose ink lines, shown from the head down to a full skirt. Her dark hair is pinned up and held by a narrow gold headband. Her face is turned slightly down and to the side, with only a few fine strokes for the nose, lips and shoulders. A thin gold band marks the waist of her strapless bodice.
The background is a page of dense, small newspaper columns in a Cyrillic-style typeface, aged to a creamy off-white. Patches of gold leaf break up the edges, thickest at the top right and down the left side, with drips running down the page. The black skirt flares out in broad brush strokes, with grey washes, ink splatters and flecks of gold near the hem.
