About Lilies at Night
Five calla lilies rise from the lower edge of the frame against a solid black ground, their long pale stems crossing near the bottom like a loosely held bunch. Each trumpet-shaped bloom curls open at a different angle, one tipping left, two facing forward, two turning to the right with pointed tips that flick outward. Light falls from the upper left, leaving the outer petals almost white and pushing the inner throats into soft silver and mid grey. Fine vertical ribs run down each spathe, and the black background carries no detail at all.
The character is quiet and graphic: a simple monochrome study where shape and light do the work, with no colour to compete.
Works in bedrooms, hallways and home offices where a calm monochrome image suits the wall. The solid black ground reads well against white, pale grey or greige paint, and against dark charcoal feature walls. Pair it with black or silver floating frames, linen bedding, chrome lamps and other black and white photography for a restrained grouping. The quality of the work is ten out of ten. The piece was affordable and the turnaround time was quite quick. What you see is what you get. I’ll definitely be getting my next painting from Direct Art Australia.
My wife already had a couple of pieces of custom ordered paintings she had collected throughout the last few years and with your large selection to choose from she found the perfect complimentary piece to finish off her room.
