About Linear Motion III
A dense mesh of hairline white curves runs across a solid black ground, crossing and overlapping until the intersections read as a shimmering grid. The curves bend in two opposing sweeps, one filling the upper two thirds and the other rising from the lower left, so the pattern looks like fabric pulled taut and twisted. Between them a clean black diagonal band cuts from the lower left edge to the right side, wide at the left and tapering as it travels, leaving an uninterrupted dark gap through the centre.
Where the lines gather they blur into pale grey clouds; where they spread apart the black reads crisp and flat, giving the surface a woven, almost metallic quality. The character is precise and mathematical rather than expressive, a quiet optical illusion that shifts slightly as you move past it or step back from the wall.
Works in a home office above a desk, a living room with black leather or charcoal upholstery, or a bedroom with grey linen. The strict black and white suits mid-century furniture, chrome legs, glass and pale oak floors. Hang it beside its companion print as a pair, or above a low sideboard with a single sculptural lamp.
